Forwarded from CLIMLIST... Postdoctoral Fellow - Hydrologic Processes - McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Hydrometeorology and climatology group at the School of Geography and Earth Science, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada is seeking applications for a postdoctoral fellow starting spring or fall 2015. Selected candidate will be part of newly funded Canadian FloodNet Project. Ten universities and relevant government organizations are involved in this five year project. The main objective of the Canadian FloodNet is to improve our knowledge of flood processes and their impacts and to enhance flood forecasting and management capacity in Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the spatial variability of observed and simulated extreme precipitation events in selected regions across Canada. He/she will also evaluate the performance and applicability of commonly used indices to characterize extreme precipitation events in these regions. The proposed work would help to determine whether spatial trends in extreme precipitation have been adequately simulated by the global and regional climate models and how these simulations may be downscaled to local scale for hydrologic studies. The applicant should have or be about to obtain a Ph.D degree hydrology, meteorology, atmospheric physics or related field. The applicant should possess strong analytical and programming skills using Fortran, Matlab or R and familiarity with Unix. Salary will be $40,000 per year plus benefits. This position is for two years. Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, statement of research interests, resume and names of two referees to Dr. Altaf Arain at address listed below. Application deadline is 20 March 2015. Review of the applications will begin immediately. Sincerely M. Altaf Arain (Ph.D) Professor , School of Geography and Earth Sciences McMaster University 1280 Main Street West, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada L8S 4K1 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org <http://www.science.mcmaster.ca/geo/people/faculty/arain/>
