UH-WHOI Postdoctoral Programme

Postdoctoral Scholar awards are offered to recipients of new or recent
doctorates in the fields of engineering, physics, mathematics, oceanography,
and geophysics, with a focus on wave propagation, nonlinear dynamics,
acoustics, internal waves, mixing, underwater imaging, underwater sensing,
biomimetics, underwater marine engineering, and others. The competitive awards
are designed to further the education and training of the applicant with
primary emphasis placed on the individual's research promise. In order to be
eligible for one of these awards, applicants must have received their doctoral
degree within the past 3 years. Successful applicants must show evidence that
they have completed all of the requirements for their degree before they begin
their scholar appointment. It is also expected that candidates will have a
command of the English language.

Successful applicants are expected to spend 12 months at Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), and another 12 months at the University of
Haifa (UH). They are expected to: (1) contribute to the overall research
efforts of both institutes; (2) develop course materials for UH’s graduate
programme; (3) serve as a teaching assistant for UH’s graduate programme, and
strengthen its international scientific and technical capabilities. Each award
recipient is provided with office/laboratory space in close proximity to the
resident staff acting as general advisor throughout the award period. Although
it is not a requirement, we encourage applicants to communicate with potential
WHOI advisors prior to applying. Any staff member mentioned in the application
will have the chance to review the application.

Scholars can initiate their study and research period any time after
notification and before April 1, 2015. Recipients of the 2015-2016 awards will
receive a competitive stipend during their stay at WHOI, and UH, plus a
relocation allowance. Applicants that have partial/full external funding are
eligible to apply.

Evaluation of candidates will start on January 1, 2015. To be considered please
submit the application online<>.
