The Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change is looking for a
University Assistant with doctorate/Assistant Professor

(40 hours a week; fixed-term employment for the period of 6 years with
an optional tenure track; position to be filled as of now)

Career objective: Promotion to the rank of an Associate Professor;
permanent employment.
Job specification

- Leading participation in Wegener Center research, especially in
management and further development of the "Regional and Local Climate
Modeling and Analysis Research Group"
- Independent and collaborative research and dedicated publication
activities in this area
- Participation in and lead of national and international research
projects as well as development and continuation of international
research cooperation
- Participation in teaching, by independent lecturing and in the
supervision of bachelor, master and doctoral theses in the areas of
atmosphere, climate, and environmental physics
- Participation in the self-administration of the University and in
tasks at institute level

Professional qualifications

- Doctorate/Ph.D. in the natural sciences, preferably in
climate-/geophysics or meteorology
- Research experience in the area of climate modelling and climate
processes, especially experience in dynamical and statistical methods in
climate modelling
- Preparedness to contribute to teaching in the area atmosphere,
climate, environmental physics
- Experience in funding acquisition, especially of internationally
integrated projects (advantage) (desirable)
- Experience as team leader, especially also with internationally
composed teams (advantage) (desirable)
- Fluency in English and experience in publishing papers in English

Personal profile

- Ability to perform independent research as well as to lead research teams
- Responsible work style, ability to work under pressure, and distinct
problem solving skills
- Strong dedication to scientific excellence and ability to also inspire
collaborators and students
- Leadership and organizational competence and joy of working with
people in an internationally oriented environment

Classification

Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement):
B1 (without qualificational agreement) or A2 (with qualificational
agreement)
Minimum salary

The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and according
to the classification scheme is EUR 3’483.30 gross/month (without
qualificational agreement) or EUR 4’119.40 gross/month (with
qualificational agreement).
