USRA is seeking a Research Scientist for our GESTAR program at the
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Based in the Global
Modeling and Assimilation Office, the position will primarily involve
conducting Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) using the
NASA GEOS-5 forecast model and GSI data assimilation systems.  The
incumbent will be responsible for helping design and interpret
experiments that estimate the potential impact of new types of
satellite-based wind observations on numerical weather prediction.
Responsibilities will include developing code to generate simulated wind
observations and their errors and evaluating the simulated observations
in the OSSE. All work would be performed in close collaboration with
researchers in the GMAO's OSSE development group and other GMAO staff.

PhD in Earth Sciences or related field.
Knowledge of data assimilation systems and/or wind measurement techniques.
