Post-doctoral research position on aerosol processing by clouds
The cloud-modelling group at the Institute of Geophysics, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw invites applications for a full-time post-doctoral position.
Aerosols and their interactions with clouds continue to contribute the largest uncertainty to the estimate of climate change. The accurate representation of complex two-way aerosol-cloud interactions in numerical cloud models still poses an important challenge for accurate simulation of climate change forcing estimates.
We are seeking a creative and independent candidate with a background in atmospheric science. The successful candidate is expected to carry out research on aerosol processing by clouds using novel particle-based cloud microphysics models developed in our group that feature detailed yet robust representation of aerosol, cloud and precipitation. The project is carried out in co-operation with partners from NCAR and ECMWF.
The candidate is required to hold a PhD degree by the date of appointment. Practical skills in data analysis and experience with atmospheric modelling and/or aerosol/cloud microphysics are expected. Scripting/programming skills and experience with open-source scientific tools is an asset. A very good command of English is essential.
The position is fully funded by the Polish National Science Centre (NCN).
The post holder is expected to join our team for up to 18 months. The offered net salary of EUR 1200-1500 is competitive for the cost of living in Warsaw. The contract includes health coverage for Poland and EU, contribution to the retirement fund, and 36 days of paid holiday per year. The post holder will have access to travel funds for international meetings/conferences.
Please direct the applications to prof. Hanna Pawlowska (email@example.com). The applications should include a CV detailing the candidate's experience and research track record. A cover letter outlining the motivation and providing names of two reference persons is also requested.
