The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) is a multidisciplinary centre for climate research located in Hamburg, Germany. It has an internationally recognized reputation in climate modelling. Within the department The Ocean in the Earth System, we are looking for a
Scientist/PostDoc (m/f) - SAS2014 - 24
with a strong background in numerical modelling and sea-ice physics. Within the department, the successful applicant will be part of a team working on the development and implementation of a thermodynamic/dynamic sea-ice model in the framework of the ICON ocean model.
A Ph.D. in meteorology, oceanography, physics, mathematics, or a related area is required for this position. Excellent skill in programming (Fortran) is a prerequisite. Experience in code development for numerical models in geophysical fluid dynamics is an advantage as well as experience with sea-ice models and numerical schemes on unstructured grids.
The position is initially offered for two year starting early 2015. An extension for another year is possible. Payment will be in accordance with German public service positions (TVoeD E14), including extensive social security plans. The conditions of employment, including upgrades and duration, follow the rules of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Sciences and those of the German civil service.
