POSTDOCTORAL position in ocean modeling available

The LOCEAN Laboratory, University Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris, seeks
applicants for a postdoctoral position in tropical ocean modeling. A
Ph.D. in oceanography is required, as well as a strong research
experience in running an OGCM. We encourage applications from
researchers interested in improving simulation of upper tropical ocean
stratification and circulation, and in understanding physics of tropical
eastern basin upwellings and their interactions with the atmosphere.

The researcher will help conduct a modeling effort directed at improving
the realism of the OGCM simulations within the regions of the eastern
tropical Atlantic basin characterized by warm biases. A regional set up
of the NEMO OGCM will mainly be used and further developed to
investigate hypotheses associated with the warm bias problem.

The project will be carried out in collaboration with colleagues from
LOCEAN and IPSL working on the topic, and with the international team of
the EU FP7 Project « PREFACE » focusing on the issue.

The framework of research is particularly rich and favorable, thanks to
an exceptional ensemble of complementary models, configurations,
observations, tools and methodologies, currently used for studying the
eastern basin biases, at IPSL and within PREFACE.

This position is for two years and is open until fulfilled. A response
before October 22d, 2014 would be appreciated.

Please send an application with a statement of research interests,
curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional
references to Dr. Alban Lazar (
<>) and contact him directly with any
inquiries about the position.
