Wind Model Developer

We’re hiring! 

Aon Benfield is currently recruiting a Wind Model Developer to join our team in 
London.


About the Role 

As a Wind Model Developer some of your key responsibilities will involve: 

1.      Manage and work on the development of a new Europe hail/summer storm 
model. 
2.      Cooperation with the Institute of Meteorology and climatology of the 
University of Cologne (IMGK) including one full-time PhD and two part-time 
Post-Docs:
a.      Lead the cooperation between the two teams (from the side of IF) and 
act as the knowledge transfer associate between the two institutions. 
b.      Coordinate the interaction between two different components of the 
project - the research and the business one 
3.      Work in cooperation with the rest of the Aon Benfield Impact 
Forecasting Wind team in the London and Prague offices on their remaining 
projects as necessary; most importantly the development of the Europe winter 
storm model (planned to expand in the next few years). 
4.      Day-to-day contact with external clients or internal model users, thus 
support the model in the market.
5.      Frequent travelling to meet other team members (in Prague or Chicago) 
or clients in Europe.
6.      Responsible for working in accordance with the Aon UK Limited Risk 
Management Framework, and compliance with the Aon UK Limited policies, 
including participation in the management of risks (including completion of 
mandatory training) that may adversely affect the business, interests or 
reputation of any Group Company.


About you 

As a Wind model Developer your skills and qualifications will ideally include; 

1.      Background in Meteorology and/or Climatology, ideally with an academic 
or research related background. Experience with climate models (i.e weather 
forecasting models) in the past will be considered an advantage.
2.      Minimum education requirements include an MSc or equivalent. A PhD or a 
Post-doc position will be considered advantageous.
3.      Excellent computing and analytical skills, including programming for 
data manipulation and analysis (i.e. Matlab, IDL, VBA, C, R).
4.      Strong presentational skills, with focus on simplifying complex 
concepts.
5.      Any work experience in developing Cat Models for atmospheric hazards 
(Hurricane or EU Wind) in the industry will be considered an advantage.
6.      We’re looking for an individual able to pick up things quickly 
following a sharp learning curve, with good planning skills and the ability to 
work independently. Must be innovative, enthusiastic and have strong 
communication skills.
