Forwarded from CLIMLIST... Ph.D. position in Meteorology at Uppsala University, Sweden (focussing on the atmospheric boundary layer and sound propagation in cold climates) Starting date 2014-10-01 or according to agreement. Project description: The Arctic and other cold regions have a significant influence on the global climate. Despite this importance there are still many uncertainties regarding how meteorological processes work in these areas. Often, the atmospheric boundary layer in cold regions differs from warmer zones, which has implications for sound propagation (for example from wind turbines). The project will focus on the physical processes in the atmospheric boundary layer in cold climates and the impact on sound propagation. The project will be mainly experimental, including field work, but numerical simulations may also be included. Requirements of the applicants: The applicant shall have a university science degree including meteorology/atmospheric physics. Other technical or science degrees together with experience in meteorology may also be considered. The successful candidate shall have a solid base in mathematics, physics, and basic computer skills. Previous experience of meteorological field work, as well as programming and numerical methods is considered a merit. The applicant must be prepared to conduct field work in cold and demanding climates. For further information about the position, please contact Anna Sjöblom, tel. +46 18 471 71 80, e-mail <Anna.Sjoblom@geo.uu.se>, or Conny Larsson, tel.+46 18 471 71 86, e-mail <Conny.Larsson@met.uu.se>. Welcome with your application no later than the 1 September 2014.
