Two postdoctoral vacancies at Shanghai Climate Change Research Center

Shanghai Climate Change Research Center (SCCRC) aims to improve our
understanding of the direct and indirect risks of natural disasters, such as
urban flooding, heat and cold waves, typhoon and summer storms, and other
extreme weather events, in Shanghai and the delta region and of how climate
change will alter the risks. It will pay particular attention to climate change
adaptation researches. SCCRC is based at Shanghai Climate Centre (SCC) and its
research team is mainly comprised of scientists from SCC and supported by
researchers from other research institutions and universities in China and
abroad. Research founding is mainly from China Meteorological Administration
and Shanghai government.

Currently, the Shanghai Climate Change Research Center (SCCRC) seeks two
postdoctoral researchers to assess climate change risks of flooding, climate
change impact on transportation and energy system in Shanghai. The term of
appointment is for two year. Start dates are flexible.

Position 1: Assessing Climate change impact on flooding risks in Shanghai
Duties:

• Developing urban flooding simulation model

• Assessing the climate change impact on flood and disasters

• Investigating climate change risks of flooding

• Evaluating city resilience to climate change

Position 2: Assessing Climate Change impact on transportation and energy
Duties:

• Developing simulation models to assess climate change impact and risks for
transportation and energy sector

• Assessing urban transportation and energy sectors’ resilience to climate
change

Essential requirements:
1) Ph.D. in Earth sciences, geography, hydrology, atmospheric sciences, urban
planning or related field;
2) Strong communication skills;
3) Strong computational skills of Fortran, Matlab or other programme languages.
4) Experiences of spatial analysis using geography information system software
(e. g. ArcGIS).

SCCRC will offer a competitive salary in line with qualifications and
