Forwarded from CLIMLIST... We are announcing a Research Scientist Position for the Managing, Processing, Visualizing and Analyzing Commercial Microwave Link Data for Line Integrated Precipitation Quantification and Application in Hydrology Job description: At KIT-Campus Alpin new techniques for precipitation observation using commercial microwave communication links are developed. With a new arrangement between KIT and its industry partner Ericsson GmbH direct access to the necessary attenuation data for entire Germany is now available. This increase of available data requires sophisticated data management and data processing algorithms. The research will focus on the exploitation of microwave link data for precipitation observation and its application in hydrology. Within our international team the applicant’s main tasks will be: The evaluation of different data base concepts and the initialization of a new data base for the increasing number of microwave link data sets The development of a visualization and download tool for the data base content The development of new data processing strategies The application and evaluation of microwave link derived rainfall information as input for hydrological models and -analyses. Requirements: To be able to handle the described tasks the applicant should have A MSc. or PhD in physics, computer science, physical geography, geo-informatics, environmental sciences, engineering, or a related field Strong programming skills, preferably in Python Experience with Linux (or similar UNIX-like operating systems) Interest in environmental processes and problems Good knowledge of English and German in written and oral form Salary: The salary will be in accordance with the German /Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst der Länder/ (TV-L), depending on the applicant’s degree.
