FUGRO GEOS seek Data Systems Administrator  

The Company
Fugro GEOS is one of the world's leading metocean companies and operates on a 
world-wide basis.  We have an exciting new opportunity for a highly motivated 
and experienced individual to join the 

Fugro GEOS ICT team based in our main office in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.

The role
The successful applicant will take responsibility for all aspects of data feed 
management and web display for our oceanographic and weather forecasting teams. 
 

The role includes both data management and web display skills as well as high 
level IT inputs managing a number of Linux based servers and spatial databases. 
 

Experience and skills required:
The ideal candidate will have a good eye for detail and accuracy and be 
experienced in system, webserver administration skills and Shell/Perl 
scripting.  

Applicants should be comfortable dealing with data that is delivered from a 
number of sources including email, FTP, proprietary data reception systems and 
by direct harvest from third party servers which is all then held in an OPenDAP 
environment. 

Experience with SYSV-based Linux, configuring system services via init.d and 
xinetd with an in-depth knowledge of automating system tasks with shell 
scripts: sh, bash, tcsh are all mandatory required skills, while a working 
knowledge of Secure Shell (SSH) client, Java, and /sys and I/O performance 
monitoring and tuning tools are desirable.  

Exposure to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and above would also be a great 
advantage. The applicants must be able to communicate to all levels of staff of 
varying technical ability.
