The specific position involves research on likelihoods, mechanisms, and attribution of changes in Australian climate extremes as part of the Extremes Research Program in the Centre. This research will use high quality observational data to understand the variability and changes in weather and climatic extremes. It will also use multi-model archives and climate model simulations with specified forcings to assess the relative importance of natural and anthropogenic factors on influencing longer-term changes in extremes and the changing likelihoods of extreme climate events. The appointee will work under the direct supervision of Professor David Karoly, but will also work closely with Dr Lisa Alexander (UNSW), our partner investigators, and other members of this research program.
