Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Applied and Computational Mathematics, in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. The post is available from 1st July 2014, or a mutually agreed date, for a 36 months fixed term contract. The position is funded from a NERC grant ?Implementation and optimisation of geostrophic eddy parameterisations in ocean circulation models? of Dr. James R. Maddison. The project will explore the implementation of new ocean eddy parameterisations. Automated code generation and high-level automated adjoining will be used to seek optimal parameterisation schemes via inverse methods, which will be further implemented and tested in ocean circulation models. In addition the appointee will be encouraged to explore their own and newly arising research questions. Candidates with experience in geophysical fluid dynamics, ocean modelling, and adjoint methods are encouraged to apply.
