Postdoctoral Research Associate Physical Oceanography University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in regional ocean modelling. The role is to carry out high level research in support of a project funded by the Australian Research Council “Advancing Dynamical Understanding in the East Australian Current: Optimising the Ocean Observing and Prediction Effort”. The objective of this research is to provide new insight into the complex dynamics of the East Australian Current through data assimilative numerical modelling. We will assess the value of new oceanic observations mainly acquired through the Australian IMOS program in improving state-estimation and thus prediction, along Australia’s highly populated east coast. It is expected that the successful applicant will undertake original research, leading to publications in leading international journals, on this and associated topics. Essential requirements for the position: a PhD in Physical Oceanography or a related discipline. Experience with regional ocean modelling (preferably ROMS) is essential, and proficiency with visualisation tools such as Matlab is also desirable. A demonstrated ability to undertake independent research; excellent computing and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a research team. This is a fixed term position for 18 months with the possibility of extension dependent on funding. We seek a mid year start date – or sooner. Applicant may be required to undergo pre-employment checks prior to appointment to this role. Applicants should systematically address the selection criteria in their application.
