Applications are invited for a post-doctoral scholar position at the University of Chicago’s Computation Institute. The position is for 2 years initially, with possible extension of one year based on performance. The position is expected to begin in September, 2014 and the review of applications will begin immediately. The project’s goal is to study the transition of stratocumulus to cumulus clouds in the North Pacific using the data collected during an aircraft field campaign scheduled to be held in summer, 2015. The candidate is expected to actively participate the field campaign and assist in operating and analyzing data from the various instruments onboard the aircraft particularly the Doppler cloud radar and lidar. We will use the data to deduce in-cloud vertical air motion and atmospheric radiative heating rate profiles among other meteorological parameters. The successful applicant will have a PhD in atmospheric or related science, preferably with prior experience in data analysis of relevant observations, and good skills in scientific deduction and communication of scientific findings. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in all or some of the following areas 1) analyzing data collected by Doppler cloud radars and lidars, 2) using radiative transfer models and 3) working with data from aircraft in-situ instruments. Applicants should include a 1-page statement of research interests and relevant experience, and a CV including contacts for three references (subject: VPG Postdoc) to Julie Wulf-Knoerzer at firstname.lastname@example.org. Questions may be directed to Dr. Virendra P. Ghate at email@example.com
