The Multiphase Chemistry Department at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Mainz, Germany, offers 1 joint Ph.D. Position in the groups of Semivolatile Organic Compounds and Air-Surface Exchange Objectives: The Ph.D. project is designed to apply the coupled Weather Research and Forecasting and Chemistry Model (WRF-Chem) with an on-line/off-line soil module for studying the surface exchange, gas/particle partitioning and regional distribution and transport of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and chlorinated compounds (such as PCB) over Europe and East Asia. A master degree or diploma in chemistry, meteorology, physics or computational/applied mathematics, including fluid mechanics or environmental sciences is desired. Experiences with chemical transport modelling would be preferable. The Max Planck Society wishes to increase the number of female coworkers, and applications by women are particularly encouraged.
