The International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling (IMPRS-ESM), located in Hamburg, Germany, offers a doctoral position to an outstanding student with interest in interdisciplinary climate research. The position is allocated in the department ‘Land in the Earth System’ of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, an effect of plant trait variability on climate and carbon cycle in the Earth system model.
Applicants holding a Master’s degree (with written thesis) or a German ‘Diplom’ in physics, geophysical sciences (incl. meteorology and oceanography), ecology, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, or engineering are eligible.
To apply, please register online and subsequently submit all requested application documents via e-mail. Online registration closes February 21, 2014. Application deadline is February 28, 2014. The selection procedure includes an interview (March 27, 2014). Doctoral candidates receive financial support of about 1,400 Euros/month for a period of three years. There are no tuition fees but a semester fee is charged by the university. Funding will be available starting May 2014.
