Main duties and responsibilities The post holder will: perform simulations with a Large Eddy Simulation (LES model) on domains spanning a few tens of kilometres incorporating descriptions of aerosol properties measured on board the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Facility for Airborne Atmosphere Measurements BAe-146 aircraft during the SAMBBA (South American Biomass Burning Aerosol) campaign in September 2012; compare these results with previous studies; publish results in peer reviewed international literature; attend and present results at project meetings. The successful candidate will also work with another postdoctoral research assistant at Reading to compare the effect of the biomass burning aerosol in the LES model and a general circulation model. The position forms part of a large NERC funded research project between the University of Manchester, the University of Exeter, the University of Leeds, the University of York, the University of East Anglia, Kings College London, the Met Office and institutions in Brazil aiming to better understand and predict the effect of biomass burning aerosol on weather and climate.
