MetOcean Solutions

MetOcean Solutions Ltd (MSL) is a science-based consultancy and forecast 
supplier that provides specialist numerical modelling and analytical solutions 
in the fields of meteorology and oceanography. With offices in New Plymouth and 
Raglan (New Zealand), our international team works on world-wide projects and 
data analysis. We passionately believe in applying the latest information 
technologies to data services and remaining grounded in rigorous scientific 
methods.

While the company is small-sized, it occupies several niche consultancy and 
service roles and has a rapidly growing forecast and hindcast sector. We are 
currently seeking a talented Systems Architect, Web Application Developer and 
an Oceanographic modeller to join our team.

We are seeking a self-starter to work in our multi-disciplinary R&D 
environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a rapidly evolving 
environment with an interesting and challenging mix of science and technology.

1- Oceanographic Modeller
Your role will be to develop and manage the running of oceanographic models and 
the dissemination of data from our forecast services and hindcast systems. You 
will be supported by other expert modellers and developers in our team.

Position location: Raglan Office

Requirements:

Qualifications: PhD or equivalent experience.

In the order to apply you must have the following experience:

•        At least one of: WW3, SWAN, ROMS, WRF

•        Running long term model hindcasts

•        Analysing and critically assessing oceanographic model data

•        Scientific code development in Python

•        Working with and organising large geophysical datasets

•        Working  on a Linux platform


The following would be a benefit, but are not essential:

·         Experience with geosciences, in particular oceanography and 
meteorology.

·         Experience in an operational forecasting environment.

·         Scientific code development in Fortran, C, C++

·         Expertise with GIS and geospatial technologies

2 - Systems Architect
As the systems architect you will have overall responsibility for the 
development and maintenance of our complete data services platform, which 
includes forward facing client APIs and web-sites, relational databases, data 
servers and computational science models. We will also expect you to play a 
leading role in defining the future vision of our products and your job will 
involve coordinating and guiding the developers and scientists contributing to 
our data services.

Position location: Raglan
Requirements:

Experience: 6+ years

In the order to apply you must have the following experience:

•        Experience in science based modelling, ideally geophysical

•        Development of complex software system architecture

•        Development of data management systems

•        Development of web applications

•        Systems development on a Linux platform

•        Management of a development team

Experience in the following would be a benefit, but are not essential:

·         Experience in geosciences, in particular oceanography and meteorology

·         Code development in Python, PHP, Javascript, MySQL, Fortran, C, C++

·         GIS and geospatial technologies

Our ideal candidate would demonstrate the following characteristics:

·         Integrity and high standards

·         Ability to grasp a wide range of technologies and how they interact

·         Visionary with respect to information technology and its future

·         An ability to exercise discretion while working with confidential 
information

3 - Web Application Developer
In this role you and another web-developer will continue the development of 
MSL’s web based applications that are responsible for graphically displaying 
MSL’s data services. The products cover ocean and land weather predictions, 
ship routing, specialist safety systems for ports, oil spill and organism 
particle tracking and piracy information. You will join a team of 15 scientists 
and developers and take guidance from MSL’s systems architect. The position 
comes with a clear expectation of contribution to the design and vision for our 
current and future products.

Position location: Raglan

Requirements:

Experience: 3+ years

In the order to apply you must have the following experience:

·       Code development in Python, PHP and Javascript (including AJAX)

·       Database design and deployment

·       Development  on a Linux platform

·       Working with large and complex datasets.

Experience in the following would be a benefit, but are not essential:

·         Experience with geosciences, in particular oceanography and 
meteorology.

·         Code development in Fortran, C, C++

·         GIS and geospatial technologies

Our ideal candidate would demonstrate the following characteristics:
