Forwarded from CLIMLIST... SDSU Department of Biology has a opening for an ECOSYSTEM AND LAND SURFACE MODELER. TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN ECOSYSTEM AND LAND SURFACE MODELING DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY The Department of Biology at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Ecosystem and Land Surface Modeling, beginning in Fall 2014. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biology, Ecology, or a related field, and demonstrated strength in modeling ecosystem and/or biosphere-atmosphere interactions.Demonstrated research potential through a record of publications and funded grants is expected.Demonstrated experience in running dynamic vegetation models (DVM) and land surface models (such as NCAR CLM) to quantity biospheric feedbacks to the climate system is considered strongly beneficial. The successful applicant must have sufficient research experience to conduct independent research on the impacts of climate change on ecosystem function and land surface fluxes of trace gases (CO_2 ) and evapotranspiration. Experience in modeling climate impacts on CH_4 fluxes is desirable. The successful candidate should be able to teach, or contribute to, undergraduate and graduate courses in ecology, such as ecology, ecosystems, climate change, sustainability, biosphere-atmosphere interaction and/or numeric modeling. The successful candidate will join the Ecology Program Area of the Department of Biology with foci in Ecosystems and Climate Change, Behavioral Ecology, Coastal Marine Ecology, and Conservation Ecology. The successful candidate will participate in the highly ranked SDSU joint PhD program in ecology and the masters programs in ecology. The successful candidate will join and contribute to the recently established interdisciplinary Area of Excellence: The SDSU Center for Climate and Sustainability Studies (C^2 S^2 ), interact with a planned new hire in Regional Climate Modeling and Scenario Development (Department of Geography) and future and concurrent hires in Human-Environmental Interactions (Anthropology) and Climate Statistics (Mathematics). Applications should include(i) a cover letter, (ii) curriculum vitae including publications, presentations, research summary, past, current, and pending funding and (iii) PDFs of up to five publications and (iv) applicants should ask to have 3-5 letters of recommendation sent directly to the search committee. Incomplete applications are not guaranteed full consideration. Electronic applications and letters of reference from reviewers are encouraged and should be sent to e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org <mailto:email@example.com> Ecosystem and Land Surface Modeler Search Committee Walter Oechel, Chair C/O Renee Konstantin Department of Biology _______________________ Walter Oechel Distinguished Professor of Biology and Director, Global Change Research Group San Diego State University San Diego, CA.
