Researcher in paleoceanography

A 2-year researcher position in paleoceanography is available at Uni Climate. Uni Climate is a department of Uni Research AS and partner of the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR), a collaboration between Uni Research, University of Bergen, Institute of Marine Research and the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center. The position is within the project ”Climate forcing factors for marine environmental change during the mid and late Holocene – a link between the eastern Atlantic and the Baltic Sea” (ClimLink), funded through the Polish-Norwegian Research Cooperation Program.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to conduct research aimed at investigating mid-to-late Holocene climatic linkages between the North Sea/Skagerrak/Kattegat and Baltic Sea regions, and identify common climatic forcing factors for the two areas. The position will include analysis and interpretation of foraminifer fauna (benthic and planktic), stable isotopes (oxygen and carbon) and trace elements (Mg/Ca), as well as training of polish collaborators from the University of Sczcecini in the use of these methods.

Applicants must have achieved a Norwegian doctorate in paleoceanography, paleoclimatology, marine geology, marine geochemistry (or other relevant natural sciences) or equivalent education abroad. It is a prerequisite that the dissertation has been approved before appointment is granted.

Candidates must have experience in identification of foraminifera, with a main focus on bethic foraminifera. Experience with trace element or stable isotope geochemistry, and time series analysis, will be beneficial. The successful candidate should have good skills for training of others. Good communication and writing skills in English and a desire to engage in international collaborative research is essential.

Salary is decided by agreement. Uni Research AS has employee pension and insurance agreement. The successful applicant must comply with the guidelines that apply to the position at any time.
