Postdoctoral Research Assistant
Department of Physics, Clarendon Lab, Parks Road, Oxford
Grade 7: £29,541 - £36,298 p.a.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position within the sub-department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics (AOPP) to work in the Earth Observation Data Group on the analysis of laboratory measurements of aerosols.

The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 12 months.

The post concerns the estimation of aerosol refractive indices from laboratory measurements of transmission spectra. Much of the work will involve writing journal articles describing the results and interpreting the refractive indices in terms of the physical and chemical properties of the measured aerosol.

Applicants should have a doctorate in physics, physical chemistry, mathematics or a related field and experience in data analysis. It will be an advantage to have experience in atmospheric radiative transfer and/or Fourier transform spectroscopy. Good writing and computational skills are essential with experience in UNIX/Linux, IDL and FORTRAN an advantage. The postholder will have the opportunity to teach.

Please direct informal enquiries about the role to Dr Don Grainger (r.grainger@physics.ox.ac.uk <mailto:r.grainger@physics.ox.ac.uk>)

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 6 December 2013 can be considered. You will be required to upload a brief statement of research interests, covering letter (maximum 1-2 pages) and CV. Please also arrange for two referees to send references in by the closing date to: personnel@physics.ox.ac.uk <mailto:personnel@physics.ox.ac.uk>.
