Forwarded from CLIMLIST... PhD Student Opportunity, Atmospheric Modelling / Downscaling of glacier mass balance. The Menounos and Jackson research groups at the University of Northern British Columbia has a funded opening for a PhD student in the Natural Resources and Environmental Studies graduate program who is interested in using regional-scale atmospheric models to downscale climate and force glacier mass balance models over the Western Cordillera. Candidates should have a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field with an interest in understanding the meteorological drivers of glacier mass balance, and experience in high-resolution atmospheric modelling. An understanding of, and experience with, models such as WRF, and computational tools such as fortran, unix shell scripting, python, R, or matlab, will be an asset. The application deadline for the PhD program <http://www.unbc.ca/nres-graduate-program/phd> is February 15, 2014 for a May or September 2014 start date. However interested students should first contact Professors Peter Jackson (Peter.Jackson@unbc.ca) or Brian Menounos (Brian.Menounos@unbc.ca) for further information on this position, as well as its remuneration and requirements, before formally applying to UNBC. ================================================================= http://cirrus.unbc.ca/peterj | http://cirrus.unbc.ca | http://www.unbc.ca =================================================================
