Meteorologist - ConocoPhillips


Company Overview:

ConocoPhillips is one of the world’s largest independent exploration and 
production companies based on proved reserves and production of liquids and 
natural gas. We explore for, produce, transport and market crude oil, natural 
gas, natural gas liquids, liquefied natural gas and bitumen on a worldwide 
basis, with operations and activities in 30 countries. Headquartered in 
Houston, Texas, ConocoPhillips had operations and activities in 30 countries 
and approximately 16,900 employees as of 31 December 2012. Production from 
continuing operations averaged 1,527 MBOED in 2012, and proved reserves were 
8.6 billion.

Role Overview:

ConocoPhillips would like a Meteorologist to join its European Commercial team 
based in London. ConocoPhillips sells and actively trades energy related 
products and services associated with European natural gas, power, and 
environmental products.

The Meteorologist will provide weather insights to traders and analysts that 
will be used to generate direct commercial trading activities as appropriate. 
This position will be responsible for supporting all of ConocoPhillips trading 
desks in London.

Confident and self-motivated, your excellent interpersonal and communication 
skills mean you’ll be able to liaise effectively with all levels of management 
and other businesses. You’ll have the ability to generate creative solutions to 
problems.

Required Skills / Competencies:
Provide quantitatively based forecasts around the following areas: Days 1 to 
15, GFS 00Z to 12Z and a summary of the overnight runs each morning (GFS 
18z/00z) and difference vs previous runs and all EC runs. The primary 
geographical forecast domain would be for Europe and maybe Asia with the 
exception of ad hoc requests, which could be anywhere. Other accountabilities 
will include:
·         Evaluate wind generation, tropical storms, forecasts of specific 
markets when requested
·         Provide regular longer term weather forecasts (beyond 15day)
·         Provide key insight/input on impact of weather on LDZ demand
·         Present to senior leaders in weekly trader meetings and serve as a 
face to the industry, presenting to groups, targeted customers and industry 
forums.
·         Present ad hoc analysis during global extreme weather conditions
·         Track various global port locations for extreme weather conditions
·         Tropical coverage for the Pacific and Indian Oceans

§  Education: Undergraduate or Masters Degree, or work equivalent, in 
Meteorology.
§  Operational forecasting experience.
§  Legally authorized to work in the United Kingdom on a regular, full-time 
basis without restrictions
§  Team player
§  Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Salary
Salary offered will be competitive and dependent on level of experience.
