[Met-jobs] Postdoc at GFI, University of Bergen

Dear colleagues,

I have a position vacant for a PostDoc in the meteorology group at the
Geophysical Institute at the University of Bergen.

I would greatly appreciate if you could share this information widely with
potential candidates.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow interested in
studying Arctic polar lows within the research project “High Impact Weather in
the Arctic” (HIMWARC). HIMWARC aims to extend our fundamental knowledge and
concomitantly restrain present levels of uncertainty with respect to future
changes of high impact weather in the Arctic. The postdoctoral position is a
fixed-term post, the chief objective being to qualify the selected candidate
for work in senior positions in their disciplines. The term of employment for
this position is 2.5 years.

The scientific focus for the position will be on the formation, frequency and
occurrence of Arctic meso-scale cyclones, often referred to as polar lows.
HIMWARC seeks to gain further understanding of the dynamical processes involved
in the genesis of these phenomena and aims to extend and unify existing
theories. The dynamical findings are used to define and revise detection
routines for polar lows. Based on these novel detection routines climatologies
of present and future polar low distribution and frequency will be established,
utilizing reanalysis and high-resolution climate projection data, respectively.
