Faculty Position in Meteorology, Mississippi State University

The Department of Geosciences invites applications for a full time,
tenure-track faculty position in Meteorology at the Assistant Professor
level. Applicants must have completed an earned Ph.D. degree and be in
the process of developing a strong research program with the likelihood
of external funding. The candidate must be a dynamic educator with
teaching experience preferred. The successful candidate must have
practical knowledge of Geosciences and be willing to participate in
scholarly activities and collaborate with existing faculty in the fields
of Meteorology, Physical Geography, and/or Geospatial Sciences.  The
successful candidate will be expected to develop courses in his or her
area of expertise, preferably climatology and/or global climate change
to support the department's graduate programs.  The successful candidate
will also be expected to be active in the mentoring of graduate
students, through teaching and course development (both traditional and
distance learning technologies), and in scholarly research activities
including publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts and acquiring external

The Department of Geosciences currently has 16 tenure-track faculty
members and 14 instructors; of those faculty members four are
Meteorology/Climatology.  The department offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in
geoscience and a Ph.D. degree in Earth and Atmospheric Science within
five areas of emphasis: atmospheric sciences, geology, environmental
geosciences, geography, and geospatial sciences.  In addition to the
on-campus programs, our distance learning programs enroll more than 400
undergraduate and graduate students.  Further information about the

Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Meteorology/Climatology or Geography/Geosciences with an
emphasis in Meteorology.

Preferred Qualifications:
Special consideration will be given to applicants who possess an
advanced understanding of geospatial technologies related to
climatological and meteorological processes.
