Grade 7: £29,541 - £36,298 p.a.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work within
the sub-department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics,
Department of Physics (AOPP), University of Oxford. The successful
applicant will work with Dr Andrew Wells in the Ice and Fluid Dynamics
Group on the development of direct numerical simulations to study the
fluid mechanics and thermodynamics of suspensions of ice crystals. This
fluid mechanical modelling approach will build understanding of sea-ice
formation in turbulent ocean conditions, improving our ability to
describe first-year ice processes in the Arctic and Antarctic oceans.

Applicants should have, or be close to obtaining, a doctorate in
physics, applied mathematics, engineering, or earth sciences, with a
strong background in fluid mechanics and experience of computational
modelling. It will be an advantage to have expertise in modelling of
geophysical fluid flows, or developing computational fluid dynamics
codes using parallel programming.

The appointment is for 2 years, commencing as soon as possible after an
offer has been made.
