Post-doctoral position at Laboratoire de Physique des Océans, Brest, France

A one year postdoctoral position is now opened to work on the reconstruction of the general ocean circulation from hydrology and subsurface floats. There is now a substantial number of floats (for instance from the Argo program) that may provide an accurate estimate of the mean velocities below the main thermocline. Ollitrault and Colin de Verdière (2013) have proposed a method to calculate the three dimensional horizontal circulation from velocity and hydrographic data sets. The objective of the work is to make a dedicated reconstruction of the circulation in the Eastern North Atlantic by using additional data available from Service Hydrographique et Océanographique de la Marine which is financing this study. The work requires interest and experience in large scale ocean dynamics and data handling.

Interested candidates should send their application (CV, names of  references and a motivation letter) by August 30, 2013 to:
A. Colin de Verdière
