Short Description

Are you curious about the weather? Do you want to predict its future? Spending your day with computers is your ideal? Then here is your chance to put all these together.

Description

As part of a wider Product and Innovation team our Research Scientist role will involve you in prototyping and testing new computer weather forecasting systems. You could be working on models of the atmosphere, advanced statistical and machine learning methods, and pre-operational development of systems.

We work in a commercial environment where business needs drive our activities while allowing us to use our knowledge to come up with innovative ways to achieve lasting results in a global market.

To join us, ideally we expect you to have an honours degree or above in mathematics or physics.  Alternatively, your application will be helped by a computer science qualification at these levels.

Knowledge of meteorology and/or WRF modeling and/or statistical techniques for forecasting is not essential but would be beneficial.  As would, a high level of knowledge about Linux OS or experience with running operational forecasting systems.

We also need more from you!  Are you a good communicator of scientific and mathematical concepts to non-scientific people?  Do you have solid programming experience together with a strong willingness to test and develop new ideas and strategies?  Do you get enthusiastic about statistical analysis and forecasting?

In return for all you bring we provide a great working environment and staff benefits, and a collaborative and friendly Research team.

MetService stands for quality, innovation, passion, growth and a strong sense of pride in what we do and who we are.   If this sounds like the place for you please  click on the “Apply now” button and submit a cover letter with your CV.
