Operations Manager, Centre for Carbon Measurement

Circa £50k plus benefits – Teddington, outer London

This is an opportunity to influence a rapidly growing portfolio of £7m of 
scientific work across a wide range of scientific areas: from climate science, 
to emissions measurement, to renewables and the smart grid.

NPL is a world leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most

The NPL’s Centre for Carbon Measurement 
(http://www.npl.co.uk/carbon-measurement/) brings measurement science to the 
understanding of climate change and development of mitigating technologies, 
providing a firm scientific and technological base to address key questions.

As Operations Manager you must build relationships with internal stakeholders 
at all levels to promote an integrated programme, working in a translational 
capacity between scientists and external stakeholders, tracking KPIs and 
supporting colleagues to expand their work in this area. Some direct management 
of projects of up to £500k in value is required. Proactively preparing 
presentations and articles and organising events, you will identify funding 
opportunities and help to develop and implement an engaging strategy, ensuring 
the team has an up-to-date view of science projects.

Collaborative in approach, you should have good people skills and be adept at 
building relationships, influencing across all levels. Entrepreneurial and 
willing to forge new ground, you will support and challenge, showing a 
positive, can-do attitude. You must have the ability to work with technical 
experts and communicate their work in simple terms. Experienced in managing 
large projects and programmes on time and to budget, you will preferably have a 
scientific background, and experience or knowledge of low carbon technologies 
and/or climate science. Some national and international travel will be required.
