Research Scientist (Scientific Programmer) Duration of contract 1. July 2013 - 31. August 2015 Salary according to the german civil service E13 TV-L (~3200 euro/month pre-tax) MiKlip - <<http://www.fona-miklip.de/> is a major program funded by BMBF for conducting research on decadal climate prediction. Different modules on initial conditions/initialisation (A), processes and modelling (B), regionalisation (C), synthesis (D) and validation (E) cooperate in developing a model system for forecasting the near future of both natural variability and anthropogenic climate change. The following position is open at Freie Universität Berlin: Job description: As part of MiKlip module D, an integrated data and application system for standardised evaluation of model simulations will be developed (<http://fona-miklip.de/en/332.php/>). This means establishing the technical implementation of this back-end evaluation system, visualisation tools and a user friendly web interface. The system structure includes the incorporation of existing and new observation based data and the provision of data used for evaluation. Conditions of Employment: Master or equivalent in the field of natural or engineering sciences, mathematics or computer sciences. Desirable qualifications: + Experience in implementation user friendly application systems of large (scientific) data including quicklook tools and web based platforms + Experience in the development of modular applications to continuously extent functionality. + Understanding of methods from statistics, numerical implementation of mathematical equations and data mining + Very good programming skills in Python and Bash and experience in at least one high performance language e.g. Fortran, C/C++, preparing data base systems (SQL), quality control and software versioning + Knowledge of processing and visualizing large scale data with statistical programming tools (e.g. Python, R, etc.) + Ability to conduct scientific work independently as well as work in a team and the willingness to travel + Fluency in English, some knowledge of German Applications including all relevant documents and quoting the mentioned application code 24032600/2013/MikInt02 should be submitted by May, 20th 2013 to <email@example.com> or mail to Freie Universität Berlin Fachbereich Geowissenschaften Institut f.
