This is the first announcement for the 3rd Summer School in Data assimilation and its application in engineering, Cluj, Romania, 22 July - 2 August 2013: “From classical statistical inversion methods to more sophisticated approaches and from toy examples to operational systems ". This is a two week course. The first week the theory would be presented (classical statistical approaches, ensemble type filters, particle filters, genetic algorithms, neural networks Bayesian uncertainty quantification, etc) is going to be presented. Also in the first week a course on the new hot topic: GPU based computations will be given. In the second week several applications will be presented with the focus on operational systems set-up and performances: ocean and atmospheric global modeling, hydrology, risk quantification and safety issues and reservoir management. The OpenDA software and the TNO tools for reservoir management will be introduced in the second week. More information on the speakers, topics and venue can be found in the attached pdf. This is the website of the event: http://www.data-assimilation.com/ssda2013/ We will continue to update the website in the next weeks. If you are interested or know someone that might be interested please send us an email. Sometime next week you would be able to register online. This will be announced with an e-mail.
