The Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research at the Campus Alpine
of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, offers a

Post-Doc/SeniorScientist position in

Regional Climate Modeling for West Africa using WRF

within the framework of the international project WASCAL (<www.wascal.org>).

Starting date is May 1st or soon after, and the duration of the
position is for 2 years.

WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and
Adapted Land Use) is funded by the German Ministry of Education and
Research (BMBF) and investigates the impact of climate- and land surface
changes on hydrology, agriculture, biodiversity, and the livelihood of
the population in West Africa. For this purpose regional climate models
and coupled model systems are further developed and applied for high
resolution regional climate simulations and for the investigation of
land-atmosphere interactions. The research work is performed in close
cooperation with several universities and major research institutions in
Germany, the competence centre of WASCAL in Ouagadougou/Burkina Faso and
further partners in West Africa.

A PhD degree in meteorology, hydrology, physics, geo-ecology,
environmental science, environmental engineering, geography or related
subjects is required. Extensive skills in at least one programming
language (e.g. FORTRAN) and MATLAB or R are expected. Comprehensive
experiences in the application and advancement of WRF and in High
Performance Computing are needed. Fitness for the tropics, willingness
for international trips, team capability and perfect communication
skills in English is required.
