The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M), a multidisciplinary center for climate and Earth system research located in Hamburg, Germany, invites applications for
2 Postdoctoral Scientists in coupled regional climate modeling (m/f)
Ref. 2013-07: Within the cooperative Project RACE (funded by the German Ministry of Research) the interaction between the northeast Atlantic and the northwest European shelf shall be investigated using a coupled regional earth system model, which consists of an ocean general circulation model including marine biogeochemistry and a regional atmosphere model. Among others anthropogenic climate change simulations will be investigated. The initial term for this position is from August 1, 2013, to September 30, 2015. Application for further 3 years funding is intended.
Ref. 2013-08: Within the cluster of excellence CLISAP (http://www.klimacampus.de/clisap.html) the effect of anthropogenic climate change on the Arctic shall be investigated with a regional coupled climate model consisting of an ocean-sea ice model and a regional atmospheric model. Our goal is a better understanding of the dynamics and interaction between ocean, sea ice, atmosphere and land. This position is available starting November 1, 2013, and is limited to October 31, 2015.
Successful candidates will perform and analyze experiments with a complex model system. They will work closely together with other members the ocean physics group of the MPI-M (http://www.mpimet.mpg.de/en/science/the-ocean-in-the-earth-system/scientific-working-groups/ ocean-physics.html).
We are seeking highly motivated post-doctoral scientists with profound expertise in earth system modeling and experience in the analysis of large data sets. Applicants are expected to possess good programming skills, an excellent publication record and high team competence.
Payment will be in accordance with a civil service position (TVoeD E13), including extensive social security plans. Conditions of employment follow the rules of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Sciences, and those of the German civil service.
For further information, please contact Uwe Mikolajewicz (uwe.mikolajewicz(at)zmaw.de).
The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology seeks to increase the number of female scientists and encourages them to apply. Handicapped persons with comparable qualifications receive preferential status. All applications (including a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, copies of scientific degrees, a publication list, and the names and contact information of two references), received by April 30, 2013, will receive full consideration. The positions will remain open until filled.
Please send your application, preferably by e-mail to jobs(at)vw.mpimet.mpg.de (one pdf-attachment with max. 5MB only including all documents), or by post to:
