Opening Scientist Position in Modelling

Persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere: Modelling processes
determining distribution and long-range transport

The Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX;
<>) is a research and educational facility of
the Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. Its mission is
internationally leading research on chemical compounds in the
environment and their biological effects, i.e. the study of persistent,
bio-accumulative and toxic substances, including sources, global,
regional and local scale distribution, and monitoring and modelling of
their fate in the environment.

The Centre is offering a position of a

Senior Scientist (meteorologist, geo-physicist, physicist, or similar)

Objectives: The project aims to advance the understanding of the
atmospheric and multicompartmental cycling of semivolatile organics by
numerical modelling, with an emphasis on regional scales (meso-scale
multicompartmental modelling). The successful candidate will join an
enthusiastic team of faculty and students in one of the leading
institutes in the field. He/she will apply and further develop models,
will cooperate closely with other research groups in the field and the
Faculty of Informatics. Unique regional monitoring data are available
for model validation. We seek a highly motivated, independently working
individual with interests in numerical modelling and environmental
chemistry. He/she is expected to get involved in teaching and mentoring
BSc, MSc and PhD theses. Pursuing an academic career (teaching
assignment and habilitation) is possible for individuals with excellent
publication record. Pursuit of external funding for research is encouraged.

·PhD in natural sciences (e.g. meteorology, physics or
computational/applied mathematics, including fluid mechanics)

·Expertise in atmospheric model development

·Familiarity with Fortran, MatLab, IDL and script languages

·Proficient English reading, writing and verbal skills

The position is for 1 year and can be prolonged. It is compensated
beyond the State salary scale according to qualifications. Earliest
start date: 1 April 2013. Applications are taken until the position is

The Centre will also support candidate’s application for the highly
competitive "South Moravian Programme for Distinguished Researchers"
