Job title : Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate, Willis Research Fellow
Job description :
The aim of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Reading and Willis, an international reinsurance broker, is to integrate climate research and extreme event simulation into the assessment of weather-related hazards, delivering improved climate catastrophe risk pricing, product development and market expansion. The KTP Associate will provide a bridging role between climate research and insurance industry risk assessment, managing and delivering the objectives of the KTP by working at the interface between academia and industry, and undertaking research that is both scientifically cutting-edge and of relevance to end-users. The KTP Associate will be a key member of the Weather and Climate Hazards Laboratory within the Department of Meteorology. The post offers a generous Career Development budget, and opportunities to attend TSB KTP training.
You will have strong interest / capability in :
- Carrying out research on weather and climate hazards and facilitate knowledge exchange relating to climate and hazardous weather with the insurance industry
- Reporting on progress and results of this research through appropriate methods, including: papers for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, presentation of results at conferences, workshops etc, presentations to the general public if appropriate
- Working in the Willis London office within the Willis Product Development Team led by Helene Galy (approximately one week per month), integrating the research outputs into user-based risk assessment tools
- Building/raising awareness of current progress in relevant research areas, to ensure that the research remains at the cutting edge
