A fully-funded PhD studentship is available in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Professor Andrea Scott (firstname.lastname@example.org). The project objective is to carry out an Observing System Simulation Experiment (OSSE) in the Labrador Sea. The work will be carried out as part of a larger research network that involves several universities and government agencies in Canada. The research network will answer fundamental questions about how the deep ocean exchanges carbon dioxide, oxygen, and heat with the atmosphere through the Labrador Sea. New observations and modelling will determine what controls these exchanges and how they interact with varying climate, in order to resolve the role of deep convection regions in the Carbon Cycle and Earth System.
Interested applicants should send their CV, academic transcripts and contact details for two references to email@example.com by April 8, 2013. Students should have previous degree(s) in Engineering or Oceanography or Applied Mathematics and experience in data analysis and programming using C/C++ or Fortran. Any questions regarding the project can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
