Postdoctoral Position in Climate Variability and Change in western North
America, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University

The Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in
the field of climate variability and change with a special focus on
hydro-climate in western North America. The Postdoctoral Scientist will join
an interdisciplinary team of researchers in the analyses of changes in weather
and climate over past centuries and the near term future across western North
America with a focus on how these changes impact the management of water
resources, land and ecosystems. The work will analyze observational data,
proxy reconstructions, re-analyses and climate model simulations to
characterize how changes in weather variability (e.g. floods and extreme
events) and hydro-climate (e.g. droughts) will change in coming years to
decades as a consequence of both ongoing natural variability and
radiatively-forced climate change. The Postdoctoral Scientist will be expected
to work closely with colleagues at Lamont and to also travel frequently to
western North America to work on the applications aspects of the project with
collaborators and stakeholders there.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in atmospheric or climate science,
extensive knowledge of climate and atmospheric dynamics, skill in the
statistical analyses of large amounts of large data sets and be proficient in a
wide suite of relevant programming and computing skills.

The position is a full time 1 year appointment with the expectation of
continuation for a second year, depending on progress and availability of
funding.

Position will remain open for at least 30 days and until the position is filled.
Please visit our online application site at
