Researcher in paleoclimate modelling

A 1-year researcher position in paleomodelling is available at Uni Climate. Uni Climate is a department of Uni Research AS and partner of the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research (BCCR), a collaboration between Uni Research, University of Bergen, Institute of Marine Research and the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to conduct research aimed at investigating the dynamical processes governing Pliocene high northern latitude ocean climate. The study will include the use of the Norwegian Earth System Model (NorESM) to perform sensitivity studies aimed at identifying how specific Pliocene boundary conditions altered the Nordic Seas. The successful candidate will be part of the OCCP (Ocean Controls on high-latitude Climate sensitivity – a Pliocene case study) project. OCCP addresses the role of the Nordic Seas in determining climate conditions at high Northern latitudes during the Pliocene, a period globally warmer than present, through a fully integrated multi-proxy and model study. The successful candidate will be encouraged to interact cross disciplines.

Applicants must have achieved a Norwegian doctorate in oceanography, meteorology, geosciences, physics, mathematics (or other relevant natural sciences) or equivalent education abroad, or have presented the dissertation for assessment by the closing date for applications. It is a prerequisite that the dissertation has been approved before appointment is granted.

Candidates must have experience running global climate models, working with climate model output and have a solid background in large scale physical oceanography and paleoclimate. Experience in atmosphere-ocean interactions is an advantage. The candidate will work in a lively research environment and should have good team working skills.

Salary is decided by agreement. Uni Research AS has employee pension and insurance agreement. The successful applicant must comply with the guidelines that apply to the position at any time.
