I am glad to forward you the following announcement for a PhD position at the Leibniz-Institute for Tropospheric Research in Leipzig, Germany. Thank you for your kind attention.
With best regards,
Leibniz-Institut for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS)
3 year PhD position in modeling of secondary organic aerosols
The Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS) is an internationally renowned institute in the field of aerosol and cloud research. Its modeling department is offering a three-year position for a PhD student (based on TV-L E13, half time) as a contribution to the interdisciplinary project
Modeling of the Formation of Secondary Organic Aerosols (SOA).
The objective of this project is the development and implementation of appropriate models for a detailed description of the SOA formation and the related phase transfer processes in the atmosphere. SOA comprises a large fraction of submicron particulate matter affecting radiative climate forcing and human health. Therefore, a good understanding and representation of the related multiphase processes in atmospheric models is required for climate as well as air quality applications. Among other applications, simulation results of the developed model will be compared with measurements of experiments performed at the TROPOS chamber facility LEAK.
Candidates should have a university degree in mathematics, meteorology, physics, or chemical engineering. Ideally, they have a background in thermodynamics, heterogeneous chemistry or related disciplines. Applicants should be interested in theoretical problems and be able to implement appropriate solution approaches in computer programs. Knowledge of FORTRAN or/and C programming is required. Fluency in English and the ability to clearly present research results both in spoken and written form are essential.
We are offering the possibility to work in an interdisciplinary team, at a renowned atmospheric research institutes and in one of the most attractive cities in Germany. Among candidates of equal aptitude and qualifications, preference will be given to a disabled person. TROPOS is committed to increase the fraction of female scientists and particularly encourages qualified female applicants to apply.
