A research assistantship position for a MA/PhD level graduate student is
available at the Environmental Change Initiative
( at the Department of Geological
Science at Brown University (<>).
The assistantship will provide full tuition support and stipend for a
student interested in studying Antarctic meteorology.

The Antarctic ice sheet constituted the largest reservoir of freshwater
on Earth, representing tens of meters of sea level rise if it were to
melt completely. We are investigating the role of cyclones in modifying
the Antarctic climate. In particular we are interested in investigating
what the role of cyclones in modifying the ice sheet mass balance by
bringing and redistributing snow. We are also interested in
investigating how cyclones affect sea ice around Antarctica.

The graduate student will join the on-going project contributing to
climate modeling and data analysis efforts. Strong quantitative skills
are required, prior interest in polar regions and/or meteorology and
climatology is preferred.

If interested, please contact Dr. Maria Tsukernik <> or Prof.
Amanda Lynch <>prior
to launching a formal application.

Formal applications for graduate school at the Department of Geology at
Brown are due January 15, 2013 and the position will start in August
2013. Please launch your formal applications here:
