Alan O'Neill and team, as part of an international consortium, have secured a 
2-year project, funded through the EU's Framework 7 Space programme, and called 
"CHARMe: Characterizing metadata to enable high-quality climate applications 
and services".  The project will start early in 2013.  2 posts are being 
advertised for the project, which will be based at University of Reading:


1.  Job title : Scientific Software Engineer

Salary : Grade 6 - £27,578 to £30,122 per annum
Package : National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), Department of 
Meteorology, Full time, Fixed term for 2 years

Job description :

We need an imaginative and talented individual to develop tools for 
discovering, visualising and manipulating diverse climate datasets as part of 
an upcoming EU project led by the University of Reading.



You will have a strong computer programming background and experience or 
interest in Climate Science.  You will need to be able to work individually and 
in small teams and to be able to communicate with colleagues from different 
disciplines.



You will have:

-        good computer programming skills

-        good written and oral communication skills

-        a good honours degree in a numerate discipline

-        an outgoing and proactive disposition

-        an interest in Environmental Science and the wider relevance of the 
work involved in this post

Job description :

We are seeking a talented Project Manager to act as Co-ordinator for a 
strategic EU-funded research programme to increase the usefulness of climate 
data; an international partnership led by the University.



Working closely with the academic leader of the project you will coordinate the 
management, oversee financial reporting and dissemination of project outcomes 
through web-based media and conference presentations. With the ability to work 
flexible hours you will provide a substantial contribution to the successful 
delivery of the project.



You will have:

-        Significant experience in managing complex projects ability to work 
and deliver results with limited supervision

-        Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to 
support academics in report writing and dissemination activities

-        Experience of working in large organisations and managing projects 
across various teams and the ability to develop and foster good working 
relationships

-        The ability to assist in positioning the University to respond to 
other EU opportunities



Candidates with experience or familiarity with Higher Education or EU projects 
would be at an advantage.
