The National Centre for Atmospheric Sciences (NCAS) and the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom seek to appoint a Research Associate in Climate Extremes in the area of Climate Extremes for an initial period of three years with a possible extension beyond this. Based within the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh, you will be responsible for carrying out research into the evaluation of the current generation of climate models to realistically simulate mechanisms involved in temperature and precipitation extremes, and to simulate realistic climatology and changes in the frequency of extreme precipitation and temperature events through comparison with appropriate observations. The main focus of the work will be the European region. You will form part of NCAS and be expected to collaborate with others in the National Centre and with others in Edinburgh. You will be a self-motivated individual with the ability to take responsibility for the research and its publication in the peer reviewed literature. You will also be expected to contribute to the generation of research proposals to funding bodies. You should have expertise in the analysis of climate data, preferentially from models as well as observations, and a demonstrated interest in Weather or Climate.
