Post‐Doctoral Research Fellow Positions 1) Atmosphere and climate physics 2) Statistical Hydro-climatology The Water & Environmental Engineering Program (WEE) at Masdar Institute invites applications for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the field of Atmospheric science. The successful applicant will conduct research as part of joint research project between Masdar Institute (MI) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The work will be carried out in the Statistical Hydro-climatology lab of Prof. Taha BMJ Ouarda. The project aims to study the regional and global climate oscillations and their relations to the regional climate variables to provide better climatological models and hence model the surface-atmosphere interactions in a better way. About Masdar Institute: Masdar Institute (www.masdar.ac.ae) is the world's first graduate-level university dedicated to providing real-world solutions to issues of sustainability. The Institute's goal is to become a world-class research-driven graduate-level university, focusing on advanced energy and sustainable technologies. The Institute, which was created in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), integrates theory and practice to incubate a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, working to develop the critical thinkers and leaders of tomorrow. Masdar Institute is situated in Masdar City (www.masdar.ae), an emerging global clean-technology cluster that aims to be one of the world's most sustainable urban developments, powered by renewable energy and providing students and researchers with a unique opportunity to live and learn in a true "living laboratory" environment. Requirements for Position 1: Applicants should have a profound interest in understanding the coupled climate system, hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (Hydrology, Climate Sciences, Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics), and possess a strong background in one or more of three following fields: (a) Dynamic climatology and atmospheric sciences, (b) Physical hydrology and hydro-climatology, and (c) Stochastic modeling of hydro-meteorological processes. The candidate is expected to have an excellent communication abilities and a good knowledge of the English language. Proficiency in programming competency with software such as Matlab and/or R is a must. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship as reflected in peer-reviewed publications. Requirements for Position 2: PhD in statistics or applied statistics but other disciplines that include a rigorous training in statistics will be considered. Practical experience in statistical modeling and/or data mining would be an asset. Experience with using Bayesian methods is desired. The candidate is expected to have an excellent communication abilities and a good knowledge of the English language. Proficiency in programming competency with software such as Matlab and/or R is a must. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship as reflected in peer-reviewed publications.
