DEPARTMENT OF GEOSCIENCES
TENURE-‐TRACK POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Geosciences at Texas Tech University (TTU) invites
applications for a tenure-‐track position in Atmospheric Science to
begin in Spring or Fall 2013. The position will be filled at the
Assistant Professor level; a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or a closely
related field is required at the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will establish an innovative,
externally-‐funded academic research program. The candidate will be
expected to instruct graduate coursework in atmospheric dynamics,
synoptic and/or mesoscale meteorology, instruct introductory atmospheric
science courses, and direct M.S. and Ph.D. student research. Applicants
whose research program can contribute to University strategic priorities
in areas such as hydrology, wind energy and climate are desirable.
Additional consideration will be given to applicants that possess, or
demonstrate exceptional promise of attracting external research funds.

The Atmospheric Science Group web site (<www.atmo.ttu.edu>) describes
the laboratories, facilities and current research programs in the Group.
TTU has assembled a unique array of capabilities for observation and
simulation of the atmosphere (e.g., the TTU High Performance Computing
Center, two mobile high-‐frequency (Ka-‐band) Doppler radars, 24
StickNet in situ observation stations, the 68-‐station West Texas
Mesonet, and surface and tower-‐based instrument suites based at Reese
Technology Center). A new faculty member would be well positioned to
make an immediate contribution to the research and operational community.

Applicants must first visit the TTU employment website at
<http://jobs.texastech.edu>. Once there, go to “Search Jobs”, search for
requisition number 87108, and provide the required information.
Afterwards, applicants must submit a letter of application, curriculum
vitae, a statement of teaching and research interests, names and contact
information (including e-‐mail address) of at least three professional
references. These documents can either be uploaded to the employment
website or be mailed to: Dr. Christopher Weiss, Atmospheric Science
Group, Texas Tech University, Box 41053, Lubbock, TX, 79409-‐1053.
E-‐mail inquiries regarding the position are received at
<Chris.Weiss@ttu.edu>.

Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled.
