Postdoctoral positions in sea ice and climate dynamics at Scripps Institution
of Oceanography

One or more postdoctoral positions in sea ice and climate dynamics are
available at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California at
San Diego. Applications are invited from candidates with a recent or expected
Ph.D. in atmospheric dynamics, physical oceanography, climate science, applied
mathematics, or a related field. Strong mathematical skills and experience with
climate models is desirable.

Successful applicants will be involved in research projects related to the
observed expansion of the Southern Ocean sea ice cover during recent decades,
the possibility of bifurcations during the evolution of the sea ice cover at
either pole, methods to reduce the uncertainty in projections of Arctic sea ice
retreat during the coming century, etc. The research will make use of
mathematical and physical analyses of idealized models of the
atmosphere-ocean-sea ice system and more comprehensive climate models, as well
as drawing on observations. See for further details
about the group, which also conducts research in paleoclimate and large-scale
atmosphere/ocean circulations.

The duration of the position is expected to be two years, contingent on
progress during the first year and availability of funds. Interested candidates
are welcome to contact Ian Eisenman ( with any questions.
Applicants should email a curriculum vitae, contact information for three
references, and a brief description of research interests to
Applications will be reviewed until the positions are filled.

institutional commitment to excellence through diversity.
