Forwarded from CLIMLIST... The Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss provides services to the general public, to the scientific community and to private and commercial users. The climate division, to which this post is assigned, performs statistical analyses to observed and modelled climate data and is responsible to provide and communicate these results to its customers. MeteoSwiss currently has a vacancy for a Research Associate in the capacity building Project CLIMANDES CLIMANDES (Climate Services with emphasis on the Andes as a support for decision Making) is a capacity building project between Switzerland and Peru, which is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. As project collaborator you are associated at Module 2 that focuses on the quality control and homogenization of climate data and in addition the allocation of climate indicators. Your task will be to apply these items to the needs of the national weather service in Peru (SENAMHI). Thereby you are in regular and tight contact with SENAMHI as well as with the project staff at MeteoSwiss. The applicant should have a university degree in natural sciences. A completed dissertation in the field of climatology, meteorology, statistics or environmental science is desirable. Alongside proven know-how in climate statistics and climate processes is expected. You should be familiar with UNIX, handling complex data sets and be able to program in "R" and other programming languages. Good verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and German (or English) are a prerequisite. Regular stays of several weeks at our project partner in Lima (Peru) are necessary for this position.
