Modelling Support Scientist (ENVEE0123)

Part time – 50% of full time equivalent, fixed term for 1 year

You will join the ambitious research team in the Institute for Climate and
Atmospheric Sciences (ICAS) and other computational modellers within the
School. You will provide a wide range of numerical modelling support including
any number of installing, refining, developing, debugging and running these
numerical models and training new users. You will also provide other general
computing support in order to enhance the School’s activities, to make best use
of these models in a variety of applications and in a number of computing
environments.

ICAS is one of the leading atmospheric research centres in Europe, with over 80
academic and research staff and over 50 PhD students. ICAS conducts
internationally leading research on the physical and chemical processes that
govern the behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere and climate. We conduct our
research with sophisticated numerical models, field campaigns, satellite data
and laboratory experiments. Our numerical modelling research addresses leading
problems in the areas of climate change and impacts, severe weather,
atmospheric ozone, pollution transport and atmospheric processes involving
aerosols, clouds and dynamics.

You should have a strong computing background and be working towards a doctoral
degree in computer science or natural science with numerical modelling other
experience that incorporates significant elements of numerical modelling in a
research environment.
