2 scientist positions in numerical weather prediction are open at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (met.no)

Permanent position as senior scientist/scientist, 3-year postdoc: Data assimilation in high-resolution models

Fields of work:
The main field of work is high resolution Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models with focus on method development for exploiting weather radar and other high resolution observation data. The work will be part of a project with focus on improving forecasts for the Norwegian wind power industry. The scientist will participate in a research group which works on methods for data assimilation, and will also cooperate with international research groups.

Please see http://met.no/English/Vacant_positions/ for details.

Temporary position for 3 years with the possibility of a permanent position as senior scientist/scientist: The predictability of weather and probabilistic forecasts

Fields of work:
The main fields of work will be to develop met.no’s systems for probabilistic forecasting based on ensembles of high-resolution NWP models. The work is performed within an international collaboration where met.no at present holds the project leader. Thus, close contact with groups that work with high-resolution data assimilation and development of the numerical model tools is required, such that the different sources of uncertainty with the forecasting system can be reliably estimated.

Applicants should have a good background within mathematics, statistics, physics and/or meteorology/oceanography, preferably on a PhD-level. An aspiring scientist with Master degrees could also come into consideration. Good IT skills as a background for programming are necessary.

Please see http://met.no/English/Vacant_positions/ for details.
